Protocols overview
ReaSoft Network Firewall allows you to control access between networks not only taking into account the source and the destination of a connection, but also its protocol. Protocols define protocol types and ports (for TCP, UDP and ICMP only) that services use for connection.

You should first define protocols before you can use them in rules. ReaSoft Network Firewall contains a list of predefined protocols that are most frequently used. You can manually add the protocols you need or edit those already defined (though it is not recommended).

To define a protocol, you should specify the following parameters:

  • Protocol type
  • Source port (TCP or UDP)
Usually, you can specify any port here
  • Destination port (TCP or UDP)
Here you should specify the port the access rule will be applied to.
  • ICMP properties
